# Lifecycle and events

> Signups, renewals, resubscribes, switches and endings by period, and when in the week and day subscriptions start and get cancelled.

## Subscription events

![Subscription Events: signups, renewals, resubscribes, switches, ended and net subscriptions, with an event breakdown by month](https://mintcdn.com/saletides/3XTFrAAYfSpBbQ4q/images/subscription-events.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=3XTFrAAYfSpBbQ4q\&q=85\&s=daeff9e7cb6f6a89cff9d654a102b91d)

**Reports → Subscription Events** counts what happened to subscriptions in your dates:

| Card | What it counts |
| - | - |
| Signups | Subscriptions started, with what their first orders brought in |
| Renewals | Paid renewal orders |
| Resubscribes | Paid orders restarting a subscription that had ended |
| Switches | Paid orders moving to a different plan (upgrades and downgrades) |
| Ended | Subscriptions whose end date fell in the period |
| Net Subscriptions | Signups minus ended |

Signups, renewals, resubscribes and switches are paid orders in your sales statuses. The **Event Breakdown** table shows each period (day, week or month) with revenue.

## Subscription lifecycle

**Reports → Subscriptions Lifecycle** shows **when** subscriptions start and get cancelled, in your store's timezone:

* **Started**, **Cancelled** (before their end date) and **Net Change**.
* **By Day of the Week** and **By Hour of the Day**: when signups and cancellations happen.

A spike in cancellations right after renewal day often means customers are surprised by the charge; a reminder email a few days before can help.
